An expert reader has probably spotted the possible oxymoron in the very title of this article. In other words, if you are a follower of the theory that a natural link by definition is completely organic, the logical question you should ask yourself is:
Is there a way to influence natural link generation other than by creating quality content?
To answer this question, we’ll have to delve into the very definition of natural backlinks.
What are natural backlinks?
Link diversity is one of the main characteristics of a Google-compatible backlink portfolio. However, the very definition of a “natural” backlink still seems vague to many.
Since Matt Cutts approaches the definition of natural links by saying “they are better than unnatural”, SEO experts cannot be faulted for interpreting the term differently. A logical assumption is that if you can create content that is engaging and relevant enough to inspire people to join, you’re done with natural link building.
However, even the best content can remain hidden from specific eyes forever if not strategically distributed. Now, whether to take such an approach to natural backlinks is controversial in SEO circles. To figure this out, the topdraw team interviewed six SEO personalities and came up with some interesting answers.
Not surprisingly, there is no unanimous definition of a natural backlink, but several conclusions can be drawn from the discussion. Whether you favor the idea that “not all links you are looking for are natural” or tolerate the opposite extreme (“all meaningful links are natural”), you will probably agree that the most valuable backlinks are those who :
- They take place in a natural context: the content surrounding the link is relevant to that of the landing page.
- Provide value to readers: they actually offer additional information on a certain topic.
- Have Anchor Text: The text is embedded in the content of the page in a meaningful way.
Of course, these are just a few of the characteristics by which you can determine the suitability of a backlink for your website. Based on the goals you set for your own business, you should be able to easily determine if a link is worth looking for and if your final creation is truly natural.
Assuming you support the view that even a wanted link might be considered natural, you should consider implementing the following tactics. (Even if you don’t, we recommend that you scroll down and see if any of these might work for your website).
1. Write unique and engaging contents
Write articles, stories, and blog posts that only you can write. Make sure they are of high quality, useful, and can serve as a reliable reference for all users. It would be doable if you wrote an article that covers topics relevant to your experience. The best sites, regardless of their size, do not yet have all the information in the world. That is why they will do their research and find additional information to add to their published stories. This is what happened to some of my blog posts. Because they are widely written and offer information that only I can write down, they have been referenced by various authority sites in their published stories. The results are natural quality backlinks to my blog that I didn’t even expect. Remember, people search for unique content no matter how hard it is to find.
2. Read and learn other interesting blog posts
Another thing you can do is read interesting and useful blog posts from other bloggers in order to learn and expand your knowledge. If a certain blog post catches your eye, it will naturally make a very relevant and engaging comment, without even thinking about getting a follow-up link. No need to read blog posts just to comment and get inbound links. If you do this, you will only end up making lousy comments that do not add value to the blog you are commenting on. This is why I don’t participate in comment sharing activities just to get backlinks. Instead, I spend my time researching and reading helpful blog posts that I can learn from. If it’s worth commenting, I comment on it without even thinking about receiving any incoming links. With that, I make a useful and sensible comment, not to mention that I also create natural backlinks.
3. Join forums to share and exchange knowledge
Assuming your website or blog is related to your passion. It is a better idea to join online forums to share your knowledge and passion with the online community. Forget about backlinks, join us and enjoy the conversation. Once a thread or discussion needs a link to test certain statements or arguments, share your related link. Also, feel free to include your website or blog in your profile and signature field. A little exposure and you’ll get natural backlinks. Joining forums will also give you the opportunity to make more friends and learn from them. Don’t waste time joining a forum that doesn’t interest you just to get internal links. This will only make you look like spam, which will be banned by the forum administrator or moderator and reduce their efforts to ashes. Well, I have an online forum and this is what I do with members who don’t add value to the community.
4. Give natural backlinks
It is more blessed to give than to receive. What I mean is not to be selfish and stingy, but to be generous. When writing an article and blog, feel free to link to trusted websites or blogs to complement and test your articles. It will make your items more rich and reliable. If you link to blogs that approve pingbacks, you can also get natural backlinks from them. Other than that, bloggers, who will notice your pingback and the link juice you gave them, will probably appreciate it and help you promote your posts as well. It is because they are part of your story. They can retweet it, share it on their Facebook status updates, share it on their Google+ circles, or even post it.
5. Sell quality products or services
It may not be for everyone. But if you can produce a quality product or provide services that can be spread by word of mouth or word of mouth, this is also a good way to create natural backlinks to your website or blog. If you are an expert or have exceptional knowledge in any area, you can try making an e-book. You can sell it on your blog for a reasonable amount. If you can keep a large number of customers satisfied, it will translate into positive reviews and testimonials online all over the world. This will result in natural backinks, especially if your target market is webmasters and bloggers. If you can’t write an e-book, try to sell your best services.
6. Analyze and classify your blog or website
Don’t you know that monitoring and crawling your site can also generate backlinks? Have your website or blog measure, analyze and quantify with Alexa.com, Quantcast.com, Compete.com, Technorati.com, Woorank.com and other website analyzers. With this, you can know the rank and statistics of your site, as well as get backlinks from it.
7. Share unique and interesting images
If you love photography and taking amazing photos, you can post original and relevant images on your site for the eyes of your audience. If you are good at graphic design, you can also create and share logos, icons, buttons, and other free graphics on your site. You can post these images and graphics on Creative Commons and ask anyone who uses them to give you link credit for their use.
8. Share unique and interesting videos
Sharing your amazing videos can also create backlinks to your site naturally. To get inbound links from your videos, put your website link in your video description as a reference source for that video. No need to request backlinks. Your backlinks will come naturally when other publishers use your videos on their sites or blogs. So you can forget about backlinks and focus on making your video look as amazing as possible. If it goes viral, the backlinks will reach your site beyond your expectations. You can share your videos on major video sharing sites like Youtube, Vimeo, Dailymotion, and Metacafe.
9. Educate people online
Keep sharing your knowledge and wisdom. Educate people online. You can do this by creating relevant educational materials and slideshows for your site. You can share your documents on Scribd.com and your presentations on Slideshare.net. You can include your website or blog as the original source for these materials. If they are considered to be useful material, there will be a greater chance that backlinks will accumulate naturally on your site. This will happen when editors or bloggers use your document or presentation on their sites. So, not only be a webmaster, blogger, or internet marketer, but also a teacher.
10. Be a resource speaker at various events
Keep teaching even in the offline world. So be not only a good writer, but also a good speaker. Speaking at various events related to your site’s topic and niche can also give you natural backlinks. As will be? Events and seminars, along with speakers and links to their websites, are often posted on the Internet, especially on the official website of the event host. If you are in the blogging niche, you may want to agree to speak at blogging events. If you do, you will definitely get backlinks. Bloggers often blog about upcoming blogging events.
11. Be social
As I mentioned earlier, you don’t need to think about getting backlinks to get natural backlinks. So if you love social media, just enjoy creating your profiles on different social sites that you love, such as Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Flickr, Youtube, StumbleUpon, and Pinterest. Just interact and socialize with the people you meet on these sites and be happy. And to make your profile more attractive, feel free to set up your website. Also, don’t forget to create a Facebook and Google+ page to bookmark your website or blog. They may not provide you with dofollow backlinks, but they are still backlicks that can increase the popularity of your site.
12. Get human connections
Friendship and real human relationship is where you can really get natural backlinks to your site. The more friends you have (who are webmasters and bloggers), the more natural inbound links you can access your site. And how do you get more friends? The answer is to selflessly help those who need your help. If you can do it in secret, the better and more natural it will be. So, make the word “help” the main focus of building your site. Help your friends on social media, help your audience, even help people who don’t have the ability to provide you backlinks. When people are deeply moved and inspired by your kindness, they will become your loyal friends. Among these people there may be bloggers and editors who will unexpectedly give you natural backlinks.
There are still many other ways to get natural backlinks besides the list above. For example, nominating your blog for blog awards can give you backlinks if your blog becomes a winner. Another method, which is actually a popular technique, is guest posting. Most SEO and internet marketers post as guests to build their backlinks. However, this will only be seen as a natural way if your intention is not to get a backlink, but to share your knowledge, add value to the host site, and deliver quality content to your readers. Honestly, I haven’t posted any guest posts on any other blog yet. I prefer to dedicate my time to my blog audience, which is constantly waiting for new content from me. Another thing is that I want to reserve the other SEO weapons for future use. Well, in this constant marketing competition, you don’t want to run out of ammunition.
How can I get free quality backlinks?
Write guest posts for other quality sites
While Google technically discourages businesses from doing this, writing guest posts for quality sites within your industry is a great way to get backlinks for free. Google and other search engines monitor excessive backlink exchanges to identify this practice.
Are backlinks still important 2021?
Backlinks are still important for SEO performance because they are the foundation of Google’s original PageRank algorithm. Countless independent studies have been conducted in the SEO industry demonstrating the impact of backlinks on organic search performance.
How many backlinks should a blog have?
In general, a score of 60-100 is great, 40-50 is good, and less than 40 is not great. If you want to build high quality backlinks, start by linking to high authority websites that are also relevant to your niche and approved by search engines.
